Who We Are

We are a Program Safeguard Contractor (PSC), an organization that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has contracted with to perform specific program integrity functions under the Medicare Integrity Program. We are dedicated to program integrity through enhanced data analysis capabilities.

An Affiliated Contractor (AC) is a Medicare Carrier, Fiscal Intermediary or other contractor such as a Durable Medical Equipment Regional Carrier, which shares some or all of the PSC's jurisdiction in which the AC performs non-PSC Medicare functions such as claims processing or education. SGS works with ACs in the majority of states. The Part A states that we have responsibility for are: Connecticut, Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Part B states that we have responsibility for are: California, Connecticut, Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The DME states that we have responsibility for are: Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, West Virginia, Wyoming, American Samoa, Guam, and the Mariana Islands.

All parties, the PSCs, the ACs, CMS, law enforcement, and the provider and beneficiary communities work together to promote the integrity of the Medicare program.
