MEDIC - North

On September 30, 2006, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) awarded a new contract to SafeGuard Services (SGS) and its subcontractor Healthcare Data Management Government Systems (HDMGS) for detecting, preventing and effectively dealing with Medicare Part D fraud and abuse. This contract will be known as the Medicare Drug Integrity Contractor (MEDIC) North. The states included in the MEDIC North jurisdiction are Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

MEDIC North assumed responsibility for the above functions effective December 1, 2006. MEDIC North will perform data analysis, investigation, case development, and benefit integrity functions (fraud and abuse). HDM Government Services, LLC, acting as a subcontractor, will perform specific audits of Part D plans.
